When Patch answered questions on the YouTube page's live chat, he had the opportunity to share information on giraffe gestation, the size of a giraffe calf, how long April'south been at the park — since September 2015 — and whether this is her first calf — information technology's her fourth or 5th, Patch said.

"Information technology's an fantabulous educational tool," he said in a previous interview. "Information technology sends out that mission we have."

When April does give nascence, there will not be a swarm of worldwide media packing the barn and crowding her infinite. And the hours of sifting through emails from strangers — friendly and otherwise — the extra security precautions they've had to implement and upstate New York weather occasionally sending the live stream temporarily offline will exist forgotten for a moment.

"At the end of the day, it is axiomatic to our guests that visit and our watchers on YouTube, that the animals are loved, they are cared for, they are part of our family," Patch said. "The park was successful before this, it will exist after this, so we stay grounded and stay focused on what matters. Everything else is a distraction."
